Miserable Princess Emily

This story is of a Princess who had never been to the Zoo.

She lived in a huge castle with lots of toys and games that she would play with her Daddy the King and Mummy the Queen.

This Princesses name was Emily and she is miserable.

“I am so miserable” she would say

Princess Emily would spend most of her days watching the kingdom from her bedroom window where she would look at lots of animals and she would often wonder about them.

“I wonder” she would say, “I wonder what sound an Elephant would make?”

Can you help Princess Emily?
Do you know what sound an Elephant would make?

“I wonder,” she would say, “What sound a Monkey would make?”

Can you help Princess Emily?
Do you know what sound a Monkey would make?

“I wonder,” She would say, “I wonder what sound a dog would make?”

Can you help Princess Emily?
Do you know what sound a dog would make?

Princess Emily would sit for a long time at her window watching animals from her bedroom window.

Princess Emily was so miserable.

The King and Queen could see that Princess Emily was not very happy.

“How can I make her smile?” asked the King

“You could get her a present” suggested the Queen, “One that would make her laugh.”

“You’re right!” said the King and he immediately sent for the funniest things in the kingdom to cheer the Princess up.

She was given toys that made a noise, had clowns falling around, was told jokes and read stories but nothing seemed to work. At the end of the day Princess Emily would sit by her window and watch animals. Wondering what sounds an Elephant, a Monkey and a dog would make.

“I am so miserable” she would say

The King had searched the entire kingdom looking for something funny for the Princess to laugh at. He had been almost everywhere! The only place he hadn’t looked was out of Princess Emily’s window.

One night when Princess Emily was asleep the King tip-toes around her bed to the window and took a look outside.

He could see what looked like Elephants playing in mud and Monkeys in trees swinging and could see dogs running around chasing the Monkeys.

“I know,” he thought, “I will get Princess Emily some animals to play with.

The next morning Princess Emily was woke up to the sound of Elephants and the sound of Monkeys swinging in the trees and the sound of the dogs barking at the Monkeys.

“Oh dear me!” said Princess Emily, “What an awful noise I wonder what it is.”

Princess Emily went to the window and looked down at the Palace Gardens, she saw Elephants playing in mud and Monkey’s in the tree swinging and dogs chasing the Monkeys.

There were right there in her garden and they were very noisy.

But then, she did the most amazing thing,

Princess Emily began to laugh.

She laughed and laughed and laughed until she was almost crying because she loved her new friends.

The King was thrilled.

“I never knew an Elephant, Monkey and Dog would be so loud.” Princess Emily said “It was very funny but please make them stop!” she shouted to the King.

The King also thought that they were very loud and he shouted “I COMAND YOU TO STOP”

Then the Elephants stopped trumpeting, the Monkey’s stopped swinging and the Dogs stopped barking and the animals were very quiet.

Princess Emily made a big sigh.

“I wanted to know what an Elephant, Monkey and Dog sounded like,” she said, “But now I know I don’t think I like all the noise. Can we find them a new home please?” she asked the King.

“Of course we can dear!” said the kind King said

“Well where can they stay?” asked Princess Emily.

The King looked puzzled.

They could not stay in the bedrooms because the Elephants were too big, they could not stay in the stables because the Monkeys would scare the horses, they could not stay in the kitchen because the Dogs would eat all the food.

“Oh dear!” he said, “I really don’t know!”

Princess Emily and the King were very puzzled.

Just then the Queen entered to see what all the noise was.

“Oh darling Princess Emily, whatever is all that noise?” she gasped and she made her way to the window and looked down at the Palace Gardens, she saw Elephants playing in mud and Monkey’s in the tree swinging and dogs chasing the Monkeys.

Princess Emily smiled. “We wanted them to have a new home but we can not think of one!” she said.

“They could not stay in the bedrooms because the Elephants were too big, they could not stay in the stables because the Monkeys would scare the horses, and they could not stay in the kitchen because the Dogs would eat all the food.” Said the King

Princess Emily, The King and The Queen were very puzzled.

Then Princess Emily heard something.

It was a lion roar.

"ROOOOOOOOOOOOOAR" said the lion

She could see that there were Elephants and Monkeys and Dogs but no lion.

"ROOOOOOOOOOOOOAR" said the lion

There there it was again…A lion's roar

"ROOOOOOOOOOOOOAR" said the lion

And and again…yet another lion's roar but where was it coming from?

Princess Emily looked left and could not see the lion.

Princess Emily looked right and…

Just outside the palace walls was…

A lion!

ROOOOOOOOOOOOOAR"

He was with lots of other little lions; there were other things there too. She could see birds and snakes, a crocodile and a pony. They lived in a special home called A Zoo.

“My new animals can go there!” Princess Emily shouted happily. “They can live there and have lots of friends and I can see them whenever I want!”

So that’s what they did!

The Elephants trumpeted and the Monkeys swung and the Dogs barked all the way to the Zoo where they made new friends and could make as much noise as they wanted to.

And when Princess Emily wanted to play with her new friends she would visit the Zoo.

Princess Emily didn’t sit at her bedroom window wondering what they sounded like anymore and she was never miserable again!
