Moo's Midnight Lunch
Once upon a time there was a cow called Moo
who would spend his days in the field
eating long green grass
Crunch, crunch, crunch.
When night came and the Farmer put all the animals to bed and closed the barn door,
Moo would wrap himself up in a dark, dark cloak and begin to creep across the floor.
Moo would creep past sheep who was wrapped up in a ball,
Moo would creep past horse who stood so grand and tall,
Moo would creep past Field mouse’s tiny house in the wall,
Moo would creep to a hole he had dug into the ground
Then he would creep through the hole to see what adventures could be found.
One dark, dark night Moo felt very hungry and was bored of eating long green grass,
crunch crunch crunch. So Moo had a plan to make himself a big yummy midnight lunch.
Moo crept across the floor and out of the barn and over the field and into the wood.
Moo walked towards the orchard to an apple tree where underneath it he stood.
Moo chomped on apple after apple until he had eaten them all up.
Moo walked towards the strawberry fields and ate them too,
Moo found some blackberry bushes in the moonlight and ate them too.
Moo ate and ate and ate; it was all he could do.
Moo knew he would have to get back to the barn soon and creep back to his bed but he began to feel tired so he lay down in the field to rest his head.
Moo was woken by blackbird, who whispered in his ear,
“Moo” he said, “What are you doing here?”
Moo jumped up in shock and started running from the field and back to the barn door, he quickly pushed his head through the hole he’d dug in the floor.
But when Moo tried to get through to hole and back to his bed he realised he was stuck there. “Oh dear, I’ve ate too much” he said.
Moo pushed and pushed but he still did not get through.
“Oh dear” he said, “What am I going to do?”
Moo shouted “help me” to sheep who was wrapped up in a ball
Moo shouted “help me” to horse who stood so grand and tall.
Moo was making so much noise it woke up the Field mouse
who was tucked up in her tiny house in the wall.
When Field mouse saw Moo in the hole and not in his bed
“What are you doing stuck in a hole?” she said.
"Please help me,” Moo said to his friend,
“I was bored and went for a midnight lunch you see,
I ate too much and I got myself stuck because the food was so lovely,
but the Farmer will be here soon and will be very angry with me.”
Field mouse came up to Moo and gave him a smile.
“I have plan,” she said, “Just wait here a while”.
Then Field mouse climbed on his head and began to nibble the barn door,
which was above the hole in the floor.
She nibbled and nibbled and nibbled the door
All the wood chips fell on the floor
She nibbled and nibbled and nibbled and nibbled then….
POP
Moo’s head was free again.
Field mouse ran up the door and began to open the lock
(They had to be quick before the Farmer came at 6 O’Clock)
Moo hurried back in and back to his bed.
“Thank you Field mouse I’ve been very silly,
no more midnight lunches for me” he said.

Betty the China Doll
Betty is a china doll who sits on a shelf, in a shop, right at the end of my road.
Betty has a pure white shiny-china face with big cheeks that are rosy red. She has big beautiful black eyes and a small pink heart shaped mouth. She wears a long black dress with no sleeves that show her pure white shiny-china tiny arms and delicate fingers. She has long brown hair tied in a bun at the back of her head.
She is the most perfect China Doll
Betty is adored by all the other toys in the shop who think she is really beautiful. “You’re very special,” Big Ted would say to her, “You’re made out of pure white shiny-china that looks perfect.”
Betty was very special. She was so special that she had her own glass box on a shelf so no one would break her.
In the day she would sit alone on the shelf so the boys and girls could look at her before they went to play. At night, when the shop was shut and the toys came alive and began to play, she would watch them smiling and would hear them laughing from her glass box.
But Betty was very lonely on that shelf all alone, “Oh I’d love to laugh,” she’d say, “But I don’t even know how to smile!”
The other toys teased Betty. “If you smile you’ll crack your face!” they’d chuckle and go back to play.
Sometimes, when children would come into the shop, they would look at Betty and say, “She’s so beautiful!” Then they would go to the toy cupboard and play.
Betty would watch them smiling and would hear them laughing from her glass box.
“Oh I’d love to laugh,” she’d say, “But I don’t even know how to smile!”
But, again, the other toys teased Betty. “If you smile you’ll crack your face!” they’d chuckle and go back to play.
Months passed by and Betty still did not know how to smile. She tried opening her mouth a tiny-weenie bit in the corner, but it didn’t work. She tried closing her eyes tight shut, but that didn’t work. She even tried holding her belly and nodding her head (because she had seen Big Ted do this!)
But it still didn’t work. Betty still didn’t laugh!
One cold, windy winter’s night Betty was woken up by the sound of the door crashing as it opened and closed in the wind. She shivered because she was very cold, “Brrrrrr,” she said, “It’s such a cold, windy winter’s day.”
Just then! A big gust of wind flew through the door and into the shop. It bought in with it leaves and feathers and lots of dirt. They flew around in the air, circling round and round and stayed there until the shop keeper came and closed the door.
In all the excitement Betty did not notice the tiny feather float into her glass box! It floated down-down-down, right down on to the bottom of her glass box and rested on her foot.
And then do you know what this naughty little feather did?
It began to tickle Betty’s foot!
It tickled and Betty could feel her leg twitching
It tickled and Betty could feel her belly jumping,
It tickled and Betty could feel her lips quivering!
It tickled and tickled and Betty twitched and jumped and quivered,
It tickled and tickled some more and Betty twitched and jumped and quivered some more.
And then...
Out of nowhere came a sound that Betty had never heard before, it was soft and light.
Betty was laughing!
The more she laughed the more the feather tickled her foot. She was laughing so loud she had woken up Big Ted and the other toys, who all came out of their beds to see what the noise was.
But when they did see Betty, laughing in her glass box they couldn’t believe their eyes!.
Betty the China Doll, who had never known how to smile before, was smiling and not only that, Betty the China Doll, who had never known how to smile before, was laughing.
“Whatever’s got into her?” asked Big Ted and then he saw the naughty little feather tickling Betty’s foot. He reached in and took it out of her glass box and put it on the side.
Betty stopped laughing! She had been laughing so much she was now very tired. She made a big yawn and with a little chuckle she closed her eyes and fell fast to sleep.
“Nothing to see here,” said Big Ted as he led the other toys went back to their beds.
The next morning when the Shopkeeper came downstairs to open up the shop he noticed all the leaves and feathers and lots of dirt on the ground and quickly got his dustpan and brush to clean them up. He was busy dusting Betty’s shelf when he noticed that something was strange about Betty’s face.
Betty was in her glass box like usual, but today she had her eyes tight shut and had a big smile on her face.
“What ever has happened to Betty’s face?” he said.
The Shopkeeper lifted Betty from her glass box and rubbed her face to try to clean away her new smile. He thought a naughty child had drawn it on. But Betty’s smile didn’t come off.
The shopkeeper looked very puzzled and went to put Betty back when he noticed the naughty feather by the side of the glass box.
“Oh dear! You can’t stay out in this glass box anymore,” he said to Betty kindly, “Not with all these leaves and feathers and dirt lying around, I will put you safe into the toy cupboard.”
So the Shopkeeper carried Betty over to the toy cupboard, he took her big soft cushion from her glass box and sat her by Big Ted. “You’ll be safe here.” He said.
And to this very day, Betty is still in the corner shop at the end of my street. She spends her days playing with the children and at night she settles on her big soft cushion in the toy cupboard to sleep
Betty still has her wonderful new smile and she laughs with the other toys every night.
She laughs all night long.

Little Monster's Birthday Party
Little Monster lived in a big yellow house, in a long red street with marshmallow trees that you could eat. He was lying in his big wooden bed dreaming of gooey yummy chocolate cake when his alarm rang very loudly in his ear.
“Wake up,” it said, “Wake Up! Little Monster, today is your birthday and you are 5 years old. Wake Up!”
Little Monster yawned and stretched and climbed out of bed. He was very excited because he knew that today he would be able to open presents and eat gooey, yummy chocolate cake.
But when Little Monster got down stairs he could see no presents. “Oh” he thought, “Today is my birthday and this meant I could have lots of big presents and eat some gooey, yummy chocolate cake.”
Little Monster went into the living room where Dog was lying by the fire place.
“Hello dog,” said Little Monster
“Hello Little Monster,” said Dog
“Today is my birthday, have you seen my presents and gooey, yummy chocolate cake?” asked Little Monster.
Dog lifted his head very slowly and said,“No Little Monster, why don’t you ask Miss Mouse?”
So Little Monster went to find Miss Mouse who lives in the cupboard under the stairs.
He knocked on the door
“Miss Mouse, Miss Mouse, Hello? Are you in?” he said
Miss Mouse opened her tiny door with her tiny hand and in her tiny voice said,
“Hello Little Monster”
“Today is my birthday, have you seen my presents and gooey, yummy chocolate cake?” asked Little Monster.
Miss Mouse shook her tiny head and in her tiny voice said “No Little Monster, Why don’t you ask Spider if she has seen it?”
So Little Monster went to the kitchen where Spider was spinning her web.
“Hello Spider,” said Little Monster, “Hello Little Monster” said Spider.
“Today is my birthday, have you seen my presents and gooey, yummy chocolate cake?” asked Little Monster.
Spider stopped spinning her web and said “No I haven’t, why don’t you ask Froggy?”
Little Monster went out into the garden to talk with Froggy by the pond and asked Froggy,
“Today is my birthday, have you seen my presents and gooey, yummy chocolate cake?” But Froggy hadn’t seen the cake either!
Little Monster was very confused now; he was sure Alarm Clock had said it was his birthday, he had asked Dog by the fire, Mouse under the stairs, Spider in the kitchen and Froggy by the pond and no-one had seen his presents and gooey, yummy chocolate cake.
Little Monster sat on the grass by the pond and heard Mummy Monster call his name.
“Little Monster,” she shouted, “Little Monster“
Little Monster went back to the house and when opened the door from the garden he heard his friends shout:
“SURPRISE HAPPY BIRTHDAY”
Little Monster was smiling a big smile because in the middle of the room was a long table where Alarm Clock, Dog, Miss Mouse, Spider and Froggy were sat with lots of presents.
And some gooey, yummy, chocolate cake.
